Anyone with a busy schedule can benefit from visiting a same day dentist. These are oral professionals who are equipped to perform dental treatments that typically require multiple visits to the clinic. Many people find themselves juggling many things, like a work life and a personal life.
These types of people have little free time. The problem is that dental issues do not occur according to anyone's personal schedule. When these issues come up, it is best to address them immediately or risk developing complications.
Thanks to advancements in dental technology, there are a handful of procedures once requiring multiple dental visits that can now be addressed with a single visit. This saves the patient the most important thing in the world: time.
Procedures performed by a same day dentist
Let's take a look at common dental procedures that can now be completed with a single visit to an oral professional.
1. Teeth whitening
There is no need to wait weeks just to get whiter teeth. This is usually the case when a person decides to go with over-the-counter teeth whiteners instead of getting their teeth whitened by a professional. The reality is, dentists have access to significantly stronger whitening agents than anything available at the local supermarket.
These bleaching agents can make a person's teeth up to eight shades whiter with only a single treatment. The special solutions used for these kinds of treatments are often activated with a laser. The solution then penetrates the teeth and the oxidation process begins. It makes the patient's teeth reflect less light, making them appear whiter. A professional teeth whitening is the most effective way to instantly improve the appearance of a person's teeth.
2. Dental bonding
Dental bonding is another way a person can restore the appearance of a tooth with only a single dental visit. Bonding is typically used to address chipped, fractured, broken or discolored teeth. Bonding does not damage tooth enamel when it is applied, so the process is completely reversible.
During a bonding treatment, the dentist will roughen up the tooth's surface in preparation for the bond. The composite is then applied to the tooth and shaped as desired. The bond used will have the same color as the patient's natural teeth, so it is impossible to tell that the person has had work done.
Finally, the bond is hardened using an ultraviolet light.
3. Dental crown
Also known as caps, dental crowns are used to restore the appearance of a badly damaged tooth. It is also used to restore its function. A tooth can become badly damaged from severe tooth decay, an infection or trauma.
Regardless why the tooth is damaged, a crown allows a dentist to restore its aesthetics and function. Crowns normally require multiple visits to the dentist, but thanks to new technology like CEREC, a dentist no longer has to send the dimensions of the patient's mouth to a lab and set up a follow-up appointment. Now, the crown can be made at the dentist's office and installed the same day.
