It’s important that you brush and floss twice daily while also visiting your dentist for preventive care. These will help you avoid a wide range of oral health issues<\/a>, but there is still a slight chance that you may develop one. To make sure you do your best to avoid them, you should first know all about them. Here are three common dental problems to keep an eye out for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

1.)  Dental Cavities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Decay is often called the \u201cmost common health condition.\u201d It\u2019s believed that about 92% of people between the ages of 20 and 65 have it at some point in their lives. It can happen when bacteria erode your enamel. They can produce an acid that dissolves it and forms pits in your teeth. While you may not have any discomfort at first, you may start to feel it as it gets bigger when it’s left untreated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over time, it can worsen and progress until it reaches the inner pulp and causes an infection. This can lead to severe pain, but tooth loss is a possibility when left to its own devices. The good news is that a cavity can be treated with a simple filling. If it\u2019s more severe, then a crown or a root canal may be recommended instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.)  Periodontal Disease<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another prevalent dental problem is periodontal, or gum, disease. It\u2019s estimated that nearly half of adults over 30 in the U.S. have some form of it. Like decay, it cannot heal on its own, so it\u2019s crucial you get it checked right away. In short, this condition is an infection in the soft tissues of your mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, it can cause noticeable redness and inflammation. When it\u2019s at this stage, any damage done is often reversible. It\u2019s advanced stages can show signs of gum recession and even tooth loss as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.)  Oral Cancer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nearly 53,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer in the mouth or throat every year. While this statistic may be worrying, it’s important that you are aware of it. This condition can affect anyone, but certain things increase your risk of it, such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone with oral cancer might not have many symptoms at first but their dentist will still be able to spot it. They will do a screening and increase the odds of an early detection. The sooner you catch it, the higher the odds you give yourself to have a successful treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, there are several more oral health issues you should be aware of. If you notice anything different in your mouth or worrying signs, then it doesn\u2019t hurt to reach out to your dentist. It\u2019s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
