Crowns and Bridges
A crown is a prosthetic that is placed over a tooth in order to better protect and strengthen it. Also called “caps,” crowns can be used to improve a tooth's alignment, shape, and appearance and can be used to protect and cover up dental implants. Dental crowns can be made of porcelain or ceramic to naturally blend in with the rest of your teeth. However, they can also be made from metal alloys, gold, and acrylic.
Crowns can be used for any of the following:
- To repair and protect a damaged tooth
- To prevent a damaged tooth from fracturing
- To protect a tooth that has had a root canal
- To restore the natural shape and color of a tooth
- To hold a “dental bridge” in place
Dental bridges are used to “bridge” the gap left by a missing tooth. The new tooth is cemented to the natural teeth next to them in order to hold it in place. This can prevent future potential problems and disorders. As with crowns, bridges can be made out of porcelain or ceramic in order to blend in with your natural teeth. If you are in need of a crown or bridge, please feel free to contact our offices and make an appointment today!
