Of course, one of the biggest perks of SureSmile is that there aren’t noticeable metal brackets and wires. Instead, your teeth are gently guided into their ideal places with clear, see-through aligners. Once they are seated in position, they will blend in seamlessly, ensuring no unwanted attention is drawn to your smile. In fact, even those closest to you may not be able to tell when you’re wearing them!

There Aren’t Any Dietary Restrictions

Another considerable benefit of SureSmile: it doesn’t come with a long list of dietary restrictions. In fact, the only rule is that you must remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water. Outside of that, all we ask is that you eat mostly healthy, well-balanced meals in an effort to prevent cavities and other common oral health problems from developing.

The Average Treatment Timeline Is 12-18 Months

With traditional braces, it typically takes patients 2+ years to achieve the results they desire. Conversely, the average treatment timeline with SureSmile is only 12-18 months. So, if you start today, there’s a good chance that you’ll have the gorgeous grin you’ve been wanting by this time next year. So, you can see why so many patients who have a special event on the horizon love this orthodontic treatment!

There Aren’t Monthly Adjustment Appointments

To ensure continuous pressure is placed on the teeth, traditional braces need to be adjusted every month. That’s not the case with SureSmile! Instead, you’ll be given several sets of aligners so you can progress through portions of your treatment plan at home. Then, you’ll come to our office every 6-8 weeks so we can make sure your teeth are moving as anticipated and give you the next few sets of trays.

The Aligners Are Crafted From Smooth Plastic

It’s no secret that traditional braces aren’t the most comfortable. In fact, soft tissue irritation and mouth sores are expected! Don’t worry – that’s not the case with SureSmile. Not only are the aligners crafted from smooth plastic, but they are custom-made to fit the contours of your teeth perfectly. As a result, the teeth-straightening process is considerably more comfortable.

Tip: If you do feel some soreness or discomfort arise from the movement of your teeth, sip on cool water, stick to soft foods, and take OTC pain medication as directed.

Wearing Your Trays

Of course, one of the most important parts of living with SureSmile is actually wearing your aligners. In order to stay on track with your treatment plan, you need to keep them on for a minimum of 20 hours a day. Toward the beginning of your orthodontic treatment, you might find it helpful to use the stopwatch on your phone to track your wear time. However, once you find a routine that works for you, meeting the daily wear time will become second nature.

Cleaning Your Aligners

The last thing you want is for noticeable yellow stains to surface on your aligners. Fortunately, keeping them clean and clear is pretty easy. In fact, you probably already have the three things you need: clean, cool water, a soft-bristled toothbrush, and clear, mild dishwashing liquid. If you’d like, you can also soak your aligners daily in a dentist-approved cleaning solution (this is particularly helpful in cases when you need to wear yours longer than originally anticipated).

Eating & Drinking

Good news: SureSmile doesn’t come with a long list of dietary restrictions because the aligners are removable. All we ask is that you limit your intake of sugary foods and drinks that increase your risk of tooth decay (i.e., ice cream, soda, lollipops). It’s also a good idea to exercise caution with hard pretzels, peanut brittle, and other crunchy foods that could cause your enamel to chip or crack.

Losing or Damaging a Tray

As we mentioned above, meeting the daily wear time is important. However, that’s virtually impossible if you lose or damage one of your aligners. So, it’s important that you act fast! From there, we can take a look at where you are in your treatment plan and determine if it’s safe to progress to the next set in the series.

Attending Routine Check-Ins

While you won’t need to worry about monthly adjustment appointments (which is the case with traditional braces), you will need to come to our office every 6-8 weeks so we can monitor the movement of your teeth. If you’re on track with your treatment plan, then there’s a good chance that you’ll be in and out of our office in 30 minutes or less. If you aren’t on track with your treatment plan, then we will need a little more time to determine why that is and what needs to be done.
